Given the breadth and depth of the role, Housefellows are partnered with small residential communities housing an average of 250 residents. Students lead the development and implementation of a vibrant, engaging experience in these houses through their work as Resident Assistants, Community Advisors or house council members, all of whom are advised by the Housefellow. This position serves as the Housefellow for Fairfax Apartments, an upperclass apartment building located on Fifth Avenue.
Additionally, this Housefellow will coordinate administrative and programmatic aspects of the university’s community standards process to proactively educate students on community expectations and ensure university responses to violations of community standards are developmental and representative of the values of the Carnegie Mellon community. Responsibilities include: reviewing and routing of all campus police reports and other incident reports related to community standards violations; consultation with and professional development for Housefellows and College Liaisons as they facilitate the disciplinary mediation process; support of the selection and training of University Disciplinary Committee members; management of documentation, tracking, records and reporting related to the community standards process; completion of community standards background checks; coordination of Constitution Day and additional educational outreach; and oversight and review of all community standards policies and procedures contained in the student handbook.
In service of these activities, this position will develop and maintain strategic partnerships with the entire Housefellow and College Liaison group, the Office of General Counsel, University Police, and the Coordinator for Sexual Violence Prevention. Note: this individual has the opportunity to serve in the Student Affairs emergency response duty rotation to ensure appropriate management of campus emergencies and crisis. If the successful candidate chooses to participate in the emergency response duty rotation, university-owned or -managed housing that is proximate to campus will be provided.
